Good review. Totally on target. As somebody who thought Your Blues was one of last year's best albums, this was really disappointing. It's perplexing - the cheesy midi-keyboard versions of "Notorious Lightning" and "New Ways of Living" are more anthemic and "rocking" than these full band, rock versions.

well I am not sure if I agree with MP or mr wind-up bird (perhaps some meditation time with the baseball bat will do you good?). I too have strong attachments to Your Blues and felt this EP originally lacked the faux-orchestral intensity of the originals but it has grown on me and have now had four friends who didn't much care for YB actually say they much prefer the easy rocker feel of the recastings. so I guess I am trying to say that the above-mentioned failure to achieve a.) is wrong and Bejar and Fro Eyes are both attracting new fans. a C-? Come ON... how about some grade inflation for great song-writing even if it isn't YB. Perhaps Stylus should assign the review to someone who didn't like the album. just a thought.

I really like this and the album on which it's based. Still, some of the reworkings lack the substantial power of the originals--particularly "The Music Lovers." However, others--such as "Actor's Revenge"--almost seem to best the originals. I'm happy to use them as companion pieces. Now I just need to get a cd copy of Your Blues, as whomever first owned my used vinyl copy did not take very good care of it.
