Like I said in the Left Hand Path feature, Profound Lore really are one of the most interesting labels around - see (or hear, rather) the new Cobalt album Eater Of Birds for more mind-defying brilliance. I'm sure Cosmo's already immersed himself in it. As for calling this music 'barely black metal', I think that would be a whole discourse in itself. Ambience has always been a big part of BM, due largely to the final tracks on the early Burzum albums, but also because landscapes form a large part of the philosophical aesthetic of the music, so soundscaping naturally falls into this aspect of the genre and there are loads of bands that put an ambient track on the end, as if it is some standard format for the genre. Not that all that really matters to the casual listener or anyone disinterested in genrefying stuff, but I do find it interesting.

How many times did I use the word 'genre'? Sorry.
