Who’s sick of Houston yet? Huh? Well, bollocks to you, child; the ‘Stros won the pennant. And in the purest spirit of competition, erstwhile collaborators Chamillionaire and Paul Wall have each released a single dedicated to the boys in orange. The former reworked his Scott Storch-produced breakout “Turn It Up,” while the latter rides the monster “They Don’t Know” track. Winner? Paul by a long shot. Cham’s is well-intentioned but vague (”Put the veteran up and you’ll get you a hit” - who? Ausmus? Biggio?); essentially, he’s replaced the “I”s with “they”s.
Paul, however, is in his damn wheelhouse namechecking every Astro in the lineup. He gets all the details deliciously right, too, referencing the train that circles Minute Maid Park; Willie Taveras’ rookie season; “Lights Out” Brad Lidge; and the team’s climb from 15 games under .500. To top it off, he offers congrats to owner Drayton MacLane Jr., and suggests that George Bush’s presence at home games is a major plus. As sports-themed ephemera goes, this one’s a lot of fun.
